The Cowardly Lion

Do you ever feel afraid? According to the Oz Gazette, “when someone calls us a coward, they’re saying that we feel afraid when there’s no need to be.” Alas, a healthy fear is actually a good thing in life, as it protects us from things that are dangerous and might hurt us. But how many fears do experience that are unwarranted? For example, my daughter says she’s afraid to approach new people that she wants to be friends with. Is this fear warranted or unwarranted? The lion is afraid of meeting Dorothy, The Tin Man, and the Scarecrow at first, and they are afraid of him at first too, but they all overcome their fears and become friends. Now Dorothy, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow are all caring characters, but in the real world approaching a stranger you don’t know can be a real danger. I believe that is why we have been given the gift of discernment. For instance, for my daughter to approach a new person in her class at school is a lot different than approaching an adult stranger on the street. Yes, it can be scary to discern and take the initiative to meet new people, but in the end, if it is not dangerous and you don’t give it a shot, you may be missing out on what could be a very rewarding friendship, just like The Cowardly Lion found with Dorothy, The Tin Man, and The Scarecrow found with each other.

In the end, what the lion needed was confidence, which coincides with courage. That is my wish for all of you readers, to learn the skill of being a confident person if you aren’t already. At Antonia Arts, Scarlett Antonia will teach you how to be confident by providing a safe space in which an individual, can learn, grow, and thrive. Many of her students take to the stage for the very first time under Antonia’s wing. So you see, by taking a class at Antonia Arts, it is more than just learning technique in the arts. You are training your beloved “Cowardly Lions” to become instilled with confidence, and yes, this takes courage. It takes courage to be confident but the process of getting to that confidence is so worth it. And at Antonia Arts, it will always be amongst friends.
